What is Giving Tuesday?
After a weekend of treating ourselves with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving back that launches the holiday giving season.
Last year, more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday. Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours, and activities that bring about real change in communities. We invite you to join the movement and to help get out and give this November 29.
If Chimps Inc. is a cause that matters to you, please donate to our #GivingTuesday campaign!
If we raise $10,000 we can provide the chimps with updated play structures that encourage natural movement, facilitate easier locomotion for aging chimps, and expand heated areas for the winter months.
When you donate to our Outdoor Structure Campaign, you’re contributing to the happiness and health of the chimps.
At 21 years old, Chimps Inc. is one of the first chimpanzee sanctuaries in North America and with all of the swinging, climbing, running, and displaying that the chimps do, we need outdoor structures that can keep up and suit their needs.
Chimps Inc. is home to an aging community. Four of them are now over the age of thirty (the average life span of a chimp is about fifty). Of those four, 51-year old Topo is considered geriatric. Topo struggles with arthritis, making climbing more difficult than it once was. For an adult male chimp, he remains quite jovial in disposition, but we would like to make locomotion easier for him by adding intermittent ledges that will minimize the need to hang from the bars themselves, and thus relieve any unnecessary pressure on his joints.
Patti, a former entertainer, deals with severe claustrophobia and anxiety from years of captivity. She feels most comfortable outdoors and expanding the sleeping platform in her heated outdoor “condo” area would allow her to have the space she requires during the Winter months.
Jackson, our fifteen year old male, is a bundle of irrepressible energy. His lust for play long outlives that of his chimp family’s. To accommodate and further encourage Jackson’s ceaseless desire for fun, we’d like to add more rope swings, hammocks, and climbing platforms throughout all of the enclosures.
Choose Chimps Inc. this Giving Tuesday and help us help them.
