Old Enrichment Never Dies

Old Enrichment Never Dies

The braided fire hose in this photo is a classic piece of enrichment which seemingly finds its way back to the chimps’ hands, time and time again. Created by one of our amazing past interns, almost five years ago, the fire hose has visited every outdoor space as well as areas indoors, too. It may seem simple but when interlaced with collections of sticks, twigs, raspberry vines and many other types of appealing browse, the chimps spend significant time plucking away at what treats dangle from it. Keeping it creative, and novel is always the goal. Today, we decorated it with treat-filled socks. Sounds silly but for Patti, she loves socks, and she especially¬†loves searching for the treats hidden inside. Special thanks to all of our past and present interns, whose creativity continues to enrich the daily lives of the chimps and lynx.
