New Boots

New Boots

We often use shoes as enrichment for the chimps, usually not getting much of a reaction, but when a special person brings a pair of shoes, the chimps can’t help but get excited. Yesterday caregiver, Kaleigh brought in a nice pair of yellow lace-up rain boots. Topo was so excited, ran into the playroom making grunts of happiness. He saved his boot and carried it around for much of the day. CJ got the other boot, and was intent on wearing it. She had a little bit of trouble getting her leg very far into the boot, so she cleverly unlaced it about half way, and inserted her foot, and even tried to re-lace the top. CJ is the chimp I see wearing shoes most often, and she always chooses the classiest shoe, and walks around with it on her right foot. I’ve seen her wearing heels, rain boots, and even boat shoes. She is one classy lady.
