About Maggie

When Maggie, along with Thiele, came to Chimps, Inc. in August of 2005, she became the new baby of the group at 14-years-old.  Born on September 2, 1990, at a chimpanzee facility in Auburn, California, Maggie was moved to marine World in Vallejo, California, a year later to perform for the public.  There, Maggie was introduced to Thiele and her "big sister" Patti, who helped raise her.  When the facility where Maggie and Thiele were living became crowded, the natural move for them was to Chimps Inc., where they were greeted by the familiar hoots and barks of Patti, their old friend.

Though it is often said that looks can be deceiving, Maggie's trademark hairstyle gives away her mischievous side.  Inquisitive and determined, Maggie is constantly investigating new visitors, objects, or her fellow chimpanzee companions.  Her creativity really shines when she uses socks as mittens on colder days, or when she constructs her sleeping nest of only the softest and best blankets.  If Maggie doesn't come out to greet you right away, it is probably because she is playing with her friend Kimie in their large outdoor enclosure.  Or, she might be sequestered away grooming Herbie, one of her favorite friends.
