Cooking for the Chimps

Cooking for the Chimps

Today was a good day in the kitchen; the Chimps will be pleased to know that we made a lot of delicious snacks and meals. We made mini oatmeal primate chow pies with butternut squash puree for treats, baked bell-peppers stuffed with onions, guacamole, celery, carrots and quinoa, acorn squash stuffed with a stir-fry encompassing a variety of seasoned vegetables, AND some delicious granola with nuts, honey, quinoa and dried fruits. Last night the squash puree was handed out by itself in cups, and there wasn’t any leftover today during cleaning so I guess they liked it! It was a good surprise because I guess they haven’t been the biggest fans of butternut squash.

Later in the afternoon we ventured into the Chimp house to tear paper and hangout with Topo, CJ, Jackson and Herbie. As I was tearing paper, CJ thought it would be funny to throw a blanket at me; it definitely did catch me by surprise! Herbie was being playful and sticking his lips up to the bars and making raspberry noises at us while he picked at a box of diced onions. Jackson would run into Chimp house from Playhouse, throw some stuff around, bang on things and run away as fast as he could as if no one would know it was him. He’s so darn cute but also such a mischievous guy!
