Pumpkin Fun

We have a fun fall enrichment tradition for the animals at Chimps Inc.: every year we carve out pumpkins and fill them with tasty treats.  For the chimps we stuff them with fruits and veggies and nuts, but the lynx prefer theirs to be filled with raw meat…the bloodier, the better.  Delicious!  This year when I placed Alfie’s pumpkin in front of him, he ignored it and looked up at me expectantly for his dinner.  When I just stood there, he made to walk away (with what I imagine was disappointment) and then froze, as though he had just picked up an unexpected scent.  He turned around and curiously sniffed the pumpkin, and then with an enthusiastic swat of his paw, he sent the pumpkin careening off, spilling chicken and liver as it went.  Linky was not as thrilled and walked off as though he couldn’t be bothered with all the effort it would take to get his dinner out.  Alfie, however, heartily gobbled up the meat from his pumpkin and then rolled it around with his nose to make sure he hadn’t missed any.  When I left, he was still licking the blood off of the inside.  Clearly a happy customer!
