Open House 2008
Chimps Inc. hosted our second annual open house on a pleasant
September 4th afternoon. We rolled out the red carpet for
approximately 150 of our favorite and most value supporters.
Throngs of our chimp champions delayed their self-guided tour by
first stopping to nibble on delicious hors d'oeuvres, kindly
prepared by our big-hearted volunteers. Others helped
themselves to a thirst-quenching selection of wine, beer, and
good ol'EarthH2O; yet many bypassed these temptations
altogether, including the lure of our fully stocked gift shop,
to immediately begin the sanctuary tour. Of course, these
folks knew that all of the tasty food and goodies would be
waiting for them afterwards.
As always, Topo kept vigil over his chimp family while he made
display after impressive display to show everyone that he is
still the alpha. For those who have never witnessed or
studied the chimpanzees, some chimp behaviors are often
interpreted as being humorous or playful. However, our
guests were all cautioned to never laugh at chimps, only to
laugh with them. Once Topo was certain he had everyone's
undivided attention, he would settle into a state of curious
repose. It was during those still moments where Topo
seemed to enjoy his crowd of admirers.

Chimps Inc. Celebrates Peace
Day
In 1981, the
United Nations General Assembly
established the International day
of Peace. It was in 2001, that the UN modified the
resolution and designated September 21st as the annual date
of the International Day of Peace. It is a global holiday
when individuals, communities, nations and governments
around the world highlight efforts to end conflict and
promote peace.
Each year,
since 2004, Chimps Inc. honors the International Day of
Peace by flying a giant peace dove.
The first Giant Peace Dove was conceived to commemorate Dr.
Jane Goodall's appointment by UN Secretary as a "Messenger
of Peace" in 2002. The Giant Peace Dove, as it is called,
is a handmade, white cloth dove that boasts a 20-foot
wingspan. We flew ours up high on our 30-foot chimpanzee
tower. "With the Peace Doves, we remind everyone of the
truth they sometimes forget-that peace is possible. We
celebrate all that is free and noble in the human spirit.
And we celebrate all that so many people have done
throughout the year-and will do next year-to create a better
world," said Dr. Goodall.
Help us Reach Our
Goal!
Chimps Inc. is having one of the most exciting
periods of our organizations history. With the
lawsuit settlement regarding the custody of Emma and
Jackson, the construction of our 2,100 square foot
indoor Playhouse, establishing our accredited
internship program, and the significant increase in
supporters – we can barley keep up.
This year may be the most critical year for
fundraising based on the nationwide economy. That’s
why we need your help to keep the momentum going.
We’ve set our budget based on our achievements
through the present. We’re well on our way to
meeting that goal, and we’re hoping that you can
help put us over the top.
If you have considered making a donation to our
organization or know someone that is interested,
this is they year. We can make a tremendous
difference in the lives of captive chimpanzees and
big cats while working to abolish the exploitation
and abuse of all animals.
